Home Remedies For Common Ailments

It may be easier than ever to pop into your doctor’s office to get a prescription medication for any sort of ailment, or you could even head out to your nearest pharmacy to find an assortment of drugs and pills promising to help you. It’s great to have these options available to you, especially in more serious situations, but wouldn’t it be great if you could save time, money, and peace of mind by simply treating our most common health issues in the comfort of your own home? Even if you don’t realize it right now, you probably already own quite a few products which can effectively and naturally treat an ailment you may be currently dealing with. Before you make your next run to the drugstore, try out a natural at-home remedy first to see what it can do for you.

Baking Soda

Baking soda does more than help your cake rise. If you’ve got a bee sting or mosquito bite, dabbing some baking soda onto the affected area of the skin can provide immediate pain relief, reduce itching, and lower inflammation and swelling at the site of the wound. If you’re suffering from stomach issues, you can mix 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water for reduced cramping and nausea.

Got a sore throat or a cough that just won’t go away? Take a spoonful of raw honey for instant relief. Honey is full of antioxidants which can also help stave off a cold or infection, in addition to soothing the throat and reducing inflammation in the area. Honey can also be applied to small scrapes and cuts as a natural sealant. Once again, the antioxidants help ward off infections of an open wound. Reapply every few hours until you notice great improvement.

Apple Cider Vinegar

What do warts, excess weight, fluctuating blood sugar levels, and digestive issues have in common? They can all be remedied by taking apple cider vinegar. Always have a bottle of unfiltered (the cloudy kind) apple cider vinegar in your kitchen pantry. Dilute 1 to 2 teaspoons in a glass of water and drink to your health! This concoction can regulate blood sugar levels, improve constipation, and relieve diarrhea, among other things. Don’t consume this more than once a day though, since too much of the stuff can cause harm to your tooth enamel and esophagus due to its high acidity content.
